The Monroe County Legislature held a meeting Tuesday, April 30, 2024, voting to reject a $6 million contract with Starbridge Services to take over as the fiscal sponsor of the Neighborhood Collaborative Project , which manages federal funds for critical outreach programs.
This comes as Monroe County legislators raised new questions over how funds were mismanaged when Community Resource Collaborative held the contract. Some lawmakers are now claiming irregularities involving Beatriz Lebron, the executive director of the Father Tracy Advocacy Center, which is one of the community organizations who benefitted from the federal funds.
"The current model has people on the front lines that are both friends and families, and individuals who are not qualified, trained or licensed by the state of New York to deliver such critical services," Vazquez Simmons argued during Tuesday night's legislature meeting. " many with existing conflicts of interest and ethics concerns."
