Twelve year olds should be mature enough to navigate the air travel experience without babysitters anyway.
If you are going to provide this service there should be some sort of gadget you give the airline attendant so they know that individual is flying unattended! Fix the problem instead of blaming anyone! Deal with it!
I’m just wondering. Seems like everyone has a smart phone these days, in a worse case scenario a twelve year old can call a parent it seems. Plus if someone is designated as a chaperone how does the chaperone mess that up? When the plane lands what does the chaperone do? Details.
So for those that obviously can't read: She paid the airline for the unaccompanied minor service, she was traveling to see her father,& the airline took responsibility that they did fuck up. Not mom's fault. Learn to read & comprehend before jumping to conclusions.
Alt text: Mom allowed unaccompanied daughter to enter plane alone before flight
How about u should never let ur child fly alone
I'm sorry but this complaint is nonsense. I flew unaccompanied a few times at that age and I was able to navigate the airport unaccompanied. Most kids can figure stuff out without the constant surveillance of their helicopter parents. Throw them in the deep end and they'll swim
Mom sends kid off alone and gets mad when kid is alone. Makes sense.
The airline allowed it?!? The airline? Mmmmmk. 😒
Southwest used to have a huge badge on the kid and they sit in the front. They no longer offer the service. it's cheaper to fly with the kid than it is to drive 12 hours to get her.
Not the airline’s fault. Period. This is not news-worthy, good god….
American Airlines does kinda suck
Okay 12 years old where is she at now? Did family pick her up there in Miami and is she safe now?
1. She is old enough to know how to ask an employee for help if she needed it. 2. The the parent wanted her to have an escort. They should have worked everything out before the flight took place. 3. Nothing bad happened to the girl. 4. THIS BS REALLY MADE THE NEWS!!!
This is news?
“The family had not gone over specifics with Kimber about what to expect in the unaccompanied travel process, or detailed safety instructions on flying alone”
So airlines have to also be parents?
Human trafficking target and the mom wants someone else to be the parent. People aren’t going to go out of their ways to babysit because you didn’t train your kid on what to do or where to find help.
If you're 12 and can't navigate in an airport or ask an adult to assist you maybe you shouldn't fly alone.
The girl was fine. She even called her dad (FaceTime, naturally!) who explained what baggage claim was. 😂 The only reason this is even a story is because we have a generation of scared, sheltered kids that need help doing…everything.
'The family had not gone over specifics with Kimber about what to expect in the unaccompanied travel process, or detailed safety instructions on flying alone, but said she was familiar with air travel in general' These are the morons we have to deal with.
How is this news?
I don’t see the problem with this. If she needed help, she could have just asked any airline employee.
Parents fault they didn’t go over the procedure with their daughter. Overworked and stressed flight attendants made a mistake, apologized, bent over backward to make it right and instead of celebrating the girl for her resilience they went to the news for more attention.
kid kinda seems like a wimp. won’t fly now? Geez.
