A mom who was chastised by a stranger for using her phone in a Costco where she was shopping with her kids responds in a now-viral post.

One Raleigh, North Carolina, mom who was chastised by a stranger for using her phone in a Costco where she was shopping with her kids decided to clap back.

Tracy Bennett was with her sons Elliot, 2, and Isaac, 7 months, on Sept. 27 when she tried to log on to the Costco app rather than continue to wait in line with the kids, who were beginning to fuss.According to Bennett's now-viral post, a man said to her"You see these babies? They fuss like that because they want your attention. Maybe you should get off of your phone and give them your attention.

She told"Good Morning America" she penned the open letter on Facebook because"we all think of the best things to say after a situation is over. I acted defensively when the guy made his comment.""First of all, I had no idea the toddler saying, 'Mama, pizza, mama, pizza' over and over and the baby making pre-cry warnings to alert me that if we don’t move soon he’s gong to lose it wanted my attention. Thank you for that brilliant analysis of the situation.

Bennett said she wished she had been able to explain to the man how harmful those comments can be to mothers. "No one sees the constant, never-ending flow of attention we provide for our children," she said."We are only human, and there are a lot of problems in a day to solve. Sometimes we have to direct our attention somewhere else for a moment, but it is always in the best interest of our children. That’s not just something moms say, it’s ingrained in us, it’s how we operate.

Omg if I see this one more time I’m unfollowing. I broke free from Facebook and see that I’m just about done with Twitter. So dumb.

Person making comment probably never had to shop with 2 babies. Phones today are more than just something to call someone with. Give her a hand, engage the children-from a distance.

Seriously? Such heroics in a combat zone of COSTCO - I am truly in awe

Maybe people should learn to mind their own fuckn business 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Not news.

As a former jaded journalist I am not in a position to comment because I did not witness the event.

Leave it to a man to judge her

I keep my shopping list on my phone. But even if I didn't, I can straight up ignore my kids with the best of 'em because sometimes they are super annoying when running errands. ✊

Maybe she was too loud!

So powerful. So brave.

Folks just need to mind their manners!!!

Whens trumpys 'WE Love ISIS' Hats coming out?

First of all ... how was she able to use her phone in Costco ... I never have service in there. Second of all ... he needed to mind his business.

First of all ... how was she able to use her phone in Costco ... I never have service in there.

I would have spit in his face

If she took it that personally there was probably some truth to it. Either that or she made it up to get more likes to her FB page. 🤷‍♀️

if your explanation isn’t the length of a thesis, you probably need to pay more attention to your kids...✨

Ya know it used 2 be people knew how 2 mind they're own business cause if they didn't they knew there would be consequences i miss those days.

Can we “cancel culture” these headlines.....so lame.

Another parenting expert weighs in by shaming a mom. Dude needs to mind his own business

To me, when I hear 'viral' now, that means 'avoid at all cost'. Same for ICYMI, that means 'scroll on as fast as you can'.

Yes, the man was out of line. Yet 2 minutes at home locating her Costco ID beforehand & HER situation would not have occurred. No frantic texting, no call out to hubby for a rescue. No kid's meltdown. No waiting. She failed at the 1st job of parenting: Be prepared.

I'd have told him to piss off.

Honestly I'm happy she didn't leave her kids AND phone in the car while shopping.

Yeah, sure.

My husband & I are grandparents. We've seen our fair share of 'fussy' kids, ours and our kids. Hubby once told a frazzled couple at their wits end with their fussy kids, 'Don't sweat it, it gets better' The look of relief & thanks on their faces was priceless ittakesavillage 😉

and all of you who react to this type of news give them what they are looking for, which is any controversy to have an audience

He was just a bittered man!!

White women gets yelled at...ABC news...meanwhile on Earth 1 Kurds are being slaughtered

This story sounds about white.

If you don't see a child being put in physical danger, stay in your lane

I see it all the time. Moms especially younger ones on the phone scrolling while their kids are sitting there and shake my head, but It’s none of my business.

RiseOfFoles Angry1snowman wow just terrible America. Who knew SteveKerr was right. We all have problems don’t attack China.

yoy don’t owe anyone an explanation I don’t need a blog post to tell some dude to fvck off and mind their own business in Costco

Sometimes Mainstream media don't work well

Be fun ic you could transport this headline back to the 50s. A large portion would make 0 sense.

If people just minded their own business the world would be a better place.

I like to tell folks who think they have a right to tell me how to parent to either get some or parent their own

This isnt news

Seriously? This is news?

KickTurkeyOutOfNato

Why don't people mind their business anymore. They are wandering around starting confrontations when they know almost everyone is packing....probably including them. This is the atmosphere we live in because of the Chump!

Why do you guys post the exact same thing like 2-3 times?

Our mission at is to build the social media platform that ends fake news

Nothing I love more than open letters on Facebook.

I put cream cheese instead of butter on my bagel this morning and it was delicious.

That man should have played peek a boo or made funny faces to show kindness to the kids...the mom would appreciate it and any fun interaction with kids makes your day even if the kids are someone else’s.

Please...

You're a great mom! Keep doing what you're doing and raise those babies! Children do not deserve total attention from their parents all the time. They grow up learning they aren’t the center of the universe. And, then they become compassionate adults. 👍

What a dbag of a man!

Seriously now, this is not news worthy

I guess that person just never has grocery shopped with young children.

Good for Tracy Bennett. There are too many people out there that think they have all the 'parenting skills'. This man is a coward for not giving his name. Guess what he is teaching his children!

I find it amusing and horrifying the difference my husband and I have in “unsolicited feedback” when we are alone with the kids in public. He gets “Aaaaawe how good of you to spend time with your kids” (their hair could literally be in fire for all they care).

Not really a clap back. And abc, stop using the phrase “clap back”. 🙄

He’d get told to mind his fking business if it were me
