Audacy, the owner of the station, rebranded the station from Live 105 to Alt 105.3 in 2017, largely keeping the same music format. In 2021, Audacy switched from Alt 105.3 to 105.
Axelsen, who was Alt 105’s music director from 1997 until he was abruptly let go in 2020, introduced listeners to new artists like The Killers, Arcade Fire, Gorillaz and Billie Eilish, while also vaulting the careers of Bay Area artists on his Soundcheck and Subsonic shows.
