Mobile DA: Charges won't be dropped despite report questioning MPD officer's credibility Callegari accused Dubose of grabbing and twisting his genitals to justify those punches. Dubose is charged with assaulting the officer, resisting arrest and marijuana possession, but a report on MPD’s use of force released this week by former U.S. Attorney Kenyen Brown found Callegari 's account not to be credible after reviewing the police body cam footage.
Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood disagrees and says charges against Dubose will not be dropped. Blackwood says ultimately, it will be up to a jury of Dubose's peers to review the evidence and determine if Dubose is guilty or innocent. Brown's report also found an off duty MPD officer working at Accel Academy used excessive force when he slammed a 16-year-old girl onto the ground last October. Blackwood declined to prosecute the officer and says he stands by that call. He says the circumstances, including the girl's injuries, did not rise to the level of a felony assault.
