Shocking news in the baseball world ... Fernando Tatis Jr. -- one of the best players in the MLB -- has just been suspended 80 games.

-- one of the best players in the MLB -- has just been suspended 80 games!announced the ban on Friday afternoon -- after he and the league say the San Diego Padres' all-world shortstop tested positive for Clostebol, a performance-enhancing substance.The Padres, meanwhile, said in a statement that they were"surprised and extremely disappointed" to learn of the positive test.

The team added that they"fully support" MLB's joint drug prevention and treatment program and"are hopeful that Fernando will learn from this experience." After sitting out all of this season with a wrist injury, Tatis Jr. was just about to return to the Padres within the next few days.
