MIT president L. Rafael Reif said national security risks are a top priority for him, but that excessive scrutiny of immigrants will hurt both the U.S. and MIT.

MIT President L. Rafael Reif warned the MIT community in an email of "serious long-term costs" as a result of immigration policies and rhetoric.

Reif said national security risks are a top priority for him, but said excessive scrutiny of immigrants will hurt both the U.S. and MIT. As head of an institute that includes MIT Lincoln Laboratory, I could not take national security more seriously. I am well aware of the risks of academic espionage, and MIT has established prudent policies to protect against such breaches.

Protracted visa delays. Harsh rhetoric against most immigrants and a range of other groups, because of religion, race, ethnicity or national origin. Together, such actions and policies have turned the volume all the way up on the message that the US is closing the door – that we no longer seek to be a magnet for the world's most driven and creative individuals. I believe this message is not consistent with how America has succeeded. I am certain it is not how the Institute has succeeded.

just means expensive Universities will lose money and they will be forced to invest in educating Americans. I put any American up against a Chinese.

Heck ! The Donald is as Sinophobic as another racist, Soeharto.

MIT is not the yardstick by which we measure progress in the US

It's been okay to hate Asians for a long time. This is not a new thing. You guys in academia are still okay excluding all kinds of Asians (not just Chinese) because there are too many of those kinds of coloreds. I mean, how dare they try to get in above their quota level! 🙄

Correct.

Someone should ask him how many spies MIT has inadvertently trained, how much intellectual property has been lost because of the Chinese trained at American universities, foremost MIT and Cal Tech.

China does not like us or our business. As a black person this goes double. U think if I went to China there would non-toxic environment for me? NO. Despite the feeling not being mutual I love China. But don’t let your white guilt not the US out of first place

The end of SinoFaustianPact is nigh

Idiot. All these 'suspicions' vanish when the Chinese vote out the Chinese Communist Party. Until then, they are suspect.

AnnCoulter TuckerCarlson FoxNews MIT guy's generalizations don't make any sense. Just because he is at mit, doesn't mean he is wise. He may be knowledgeable and creative but NO wisdom.

Chuck Schumer: ‘The American People Deserve A President Who Can More Credibly Justify War With Iran’WASHINGTON—In a pointed critique of President Trump’s foreign policy leadership, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer stated to members of the press Thursday that “the American people deserve a president who can more credibly justify war with Iran.” “What the American people need is a president who can make a much more convincing case for going to war with Iran,” said Schumer (D-NY), adding that the Trump administration’s corruption and dishonesty have “proven time and time again” that it lacks the conviction necessary to act as an effective cheerleader for the conflict. “Donald Trump is completely unfit to assume the mantle of telling the American people what they need to hear in order to convince them a war with Iran is a good idea. One of the key duties of the president is to gain the trust of the people so that they feel comfortable going along with whatever he says. President Trump’s failure to serve as a credible advocate for this war is yet another instance in which he has disappointed not only his colleagues in Washington, but also the entire nation.” Schumer later concluded his statement with a vow that he and his fellow Democrats will continue working toward a more palatable case in favor of bombing Iran. Sad chuck is a “hater and loser” like Donald says. Our president (Mr Trump) fights hard to protect us from those who would kill all us good Christian Americans, like the irainians. This so absurd of a headline that I momentarily believed it. Sign of times we are living in. Yeah, bring back Dubya and Colin Powell
