A Minneapolis commission has stalled on a proposal to dismantle the city's police department in the wake of George Floyd's death. The lack of a decision ends the chance that the question would be put on the November ballot.

FILE - This combination of file photos provided by the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office in Minnesota on Wednesday, June 3, 2020, shows Derek Chauvin, from left, J. Alexander Kueng, Thomas Lane and Tou Thao. Prosecutors say they may revisit the issue of audio-visual coverage of the trials of four former Minneapolis police officers charged in the death of George Floyd.

The Charter Commission had expressed concern that the process to change the city’s charter was being rushed after Floyd died following an encounter with a Minneapolis police officer. Some commissioners said they were more concerned with making the right changes, rather than making them fast. The proposed amendment followed widespread criticism of law enforcement over Floyd’s death.

The issue would likely have gone to voters if the commission had acted decisively either for or against the amendment. That’s because the City Council was required only to consult the commission and was not bound by their action. But the lack of a final decision means the proposal won’t clear deadlines to make the ballot this November.

Some City Council members promised a robust process to get public input on how a new department would look and work.

Just put cameras on every street like China. It’s a deterrent. If you have nothing to hide and not committing crimes, everything should be ok, right? That’s exactly what bootlickers say about blacks when it comes to crime and police reactions towards them.

hmwsgx sounds like someone's hungry for some more civil unrest!

Wait and see

YAY!!!! now they actually have to take a year to think about it

In many law enforcement agencies- abuse of power is too firmly entrenched to 'fix.' It's more efficient to demolish and then rebuild. MPD is such an agency. Too bad the 'commission' can't see that.

Makes sense

matteroffacttv After the georgefloydbodycam DATA was leaked. We need an effective police body camera program Police recordings should be as transparent as possible to bring Justice. Without accurate data we are getting just-us NoJusticeNoPeace The data will fix use of force budgeting issues

Wait! You mean listening to emotional knee jerk reactionaries is not a wise strategy to deal with issues of concern? 🤔 Interesting. Now what political ideology is prone to operate on emotion? 🤔 TheDemocrats

Not that Minneapolis had anything going for them but now I will definitely never visit the state. And I know I’m not the only one

It take guts to change. John Lewis made change happen. Make it happen there. Have courage.

This is the answer. Disband it and rebuild it, we don't add tape to rotten cornerstones. We replace.

Once again lack of training on how to handle the mentally ill led to police failures and a man dead. smh mentalillness

This proposal is nonsense.

Now that we have seen the new footage. The prosecutor needs to be charged with 5 counts of Felony BS and 2 counts of misdemeanor fibbing

Oh weird

Is the stalling because dismantling the city's police department is fundamentally stupid?

This whole question of defunding the police is only here because the young people who should have stayed home the past few months, left cities in ruins, and added chaos to a a global pandemic. Nope, I have no pity for young folks feeling miserable right now. NONE.

Idiots....Fund the police and fund them even more. Cops need more training and the system needs to do better with the application process.

Awesome!

Bottom line: it’s all about winning elections and keeping office. And in this case they see it’s not gonna work and they don’t want to look stupid.

i don't care...put these four pigs in jail forever..Chauvin or whatever his name is on the chair.

Whaaattttt?! That can't be. They already explained lawlessness wouldn't be a thing, they still have laws, to expect police protection is showing white privilege...Shouldn't be any doubt, right? Interesting that y'all post this pic to create more outrage.

that was their strategy from the beginning - talk abt it, stall, talk abt it, stall, talk abt it, stall, talk abt it, stall, quietly drop the subject ...

That’s just what the bad guy wants you to do, are you being BULLIED INTO MAKING BAD CHOICES about police funding, DONT BE ! you need the police, bad guys want to always escape that’s a no brainer the bad guy is just that.

This is all a ploy to devalue property, so sleazy hook nosed “investors” can swoop in and buy it all up. Then WATCH how magically they’ll be a push to “clean up crime & lawlessness!”

Did they watch the new video and hear some witnesses.

Unfortunate creatures!

Yeah they saw the rest of the videos deliberately kept secret by state DA Ellison.

Yeah but now the officers body cam footage comes out and shows that Floyd was resisting arrest. Stop the BS! Play the damn body cam footage so that the world can see the TRUTH!

Good luck y’all

Hopefully because common sense finally showed up.

Crime rates increase in NYC after defunding and dismantling the NYPD anti-crime unit. Shootings up 205% and gunshot injuries up 238%.

Quite Possibly because the police add a significant benefit to the citizens of the United States and virtue signalling have contributed to the decay of our society.

Crack head dies, city considers disbanding police.

'it's been enough time, we can stop pretending like we were ever gonna do this now, everyone's moved on'

LMMFAO! georgefloydbodycam shows a different story huh?

Nope

Analysis | Trump teased a forthcoming health care plan more than a dozen times as president. Then nothing happened.Over the past three years, President Trump has touted a forthcoming health care plan over a dozen times, only to blow past his own deadlines without enacting a plan. It boggles my mind how he can stall and after 3.5 years ESPECIALLY after pathetic pandemic response he does it with a straight, unflinching “my dog ate my homework” face. 🤦🏻‍♀️
