Minari star Yuh-Jung Youn makes history as first Korean actor to win an Oscar

,” Lee Isaac Chung’s semi-autobiographical drama about a family that relocates to rural Arkansas in the 1980s to start a farm. Youn made history as only the second Asian woman and first Korean to win an acting prize at theAccepting the award, from Brad Pitt, whose company Plan B was a producer on “Minari,” Youn began her speech by playfully calling out Pitt’s absence on set. “Finally,” she said. “It’s an honor to meet you.

She also praised her fellow nominees: Maria Bakalova for “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm,” Glenn Close for “Hillbilly Elegy,” Olivia Colman for “The Father” and Amanda Seyfried for “Mank.” Youn’s victory continued a storied losing streak for Close, who was singled out for her turn as Mamaw in the otherwise much-derided adaptation of “Hillbilly Elegy.” As of Sunday, Close has faced eight acting defeats across four decades, tying the all-time record with the late Peter O’Toole.

“All the nominees, five nominees, we were the winner for different movies. We played different roles — so we cannot compete [against] each other,” Youn said. “Tonight, I’m here, I just have a little bit more luck, I think, maybe. I’m luckier than you. And also, maybe it’s American hospitality for the Korean actor? I’m not sure.”“This is the result,” said Youn, holding up her gold statue. “Because mommy worked so hard.

TheRachLindsay tell us why you ask this question

This question is asked by a dog

Koreans don't question about each other's smell.well we talk about with friends when somebody's smell bad...But on the pressshe's not dissing somebody.just can't undestand.cultural difference.Every korean web can't understand why the journalist asked that question.

Who made this nasty question?

That answer says it all. Never ask a stupid question from a well-respected actress. She didn't work so hard for more than 50 years to be asked by that kind of question.

Stuuuupid question😫 Who did that? Should quit being a reporter.

She is great. I loved her speech. One of the best. I knew EXACTLY what she was saying. I could listen to her all day

Such a disrespectful question, I can’t stand this.

not even a good quality of question shame on you!

patriamea 나이스

patriamea I guess the reporter who asked her that kind of stupid question is one of 'giregi'. 'giregi' is a Korean composit word of Gi+Regi, - 기자, gija(a reporter) and 쓰레기, suregi( garbage) in Korean. Despite Asia's best press freedom, reliability of Korean press is like a garbage.

Smart answer to a stupid question.

She's so cute and kind and funny.

I'm impressive this situation.

Menos mal que la prensa mexicana no es la única que pregunta coladas estúpidas

The disrespect!!!

patriamea You smell bad. reporter

Next time, try asking this question to Frances McDormand or Anthony Hopkins. This 'correspondent' is an embarrassment and should be dismissed.

Did the reporter really think it was the most relevant question to ask the winner? If the winner were an american actress there would be no lack of respect. Shame on you! 축하 합니다 윤유정 🏆🎉

ninajdjd Can the journalist that asked that question be banned for future Oscars coverage?

TONE FUCKING DEAF. smh respectasianactors

wtf the question🤨stupid question ever

Felicidades para ella una grande , pero la entrevista , no merecía ese trato ,que mal periodismo

Awful question. Why are you sharing this? You should be mortified at the stupidity. Name that reporter?

Did Variety send a dog to interview her?

What a Variety of stupidity. The question shows Variety’s low quality editorial.

stupidest question, best answer.

why would they even ask that tf

why american's interview is so stupid she's soooo nice omg that interviewer not deserve that smile and soft tone

poor question . reporter apologize her please

What a poor question to ask. Sheesh

Congrats well deserved Youn has been acting for 5 decades
