Mike Richards is leaving as executive producer at 'Jeopardy!,' less than two weeks after past controversial comments led him to relinquish the hosting role

“We had hoped that when Mike stepped down from the host position at Jeopardy! it would have minimized the disruption and internal difficulties we have all experienced these last few weeks. That clearly has not happened,” said Suzanne Prete, a Sony Pictures Entertainment executive, in a memo sent to the show’s staff Tuesday.

When Mr. Richards stepped down as host on Aug. 20, Sony publicly expressed confidence that he would be able to continue overseeing “Jeopardy!” and its staff. However, the scandal had damaged his standing behind the scenes, according to a person close to the show who said the controversy had compromised Mr. Richards’s ability to run one of the studio’s most valuable properties.

Along with his “Jeopardy!” post, Mr. Richards lost his job as executive producer of “Wheel of Fortune,” another long-running Sony game show, “effective immediately,” according to the memo from Ms. Prete, who serves as executive vice president, business and strategy, for both shows. Mr. Richards’s exit appeared to end to his role in the succession saga at “Jeopardy!” The producer, who joined the show’s staff last year, had beenafter emerging as the likely successor to the late Alex Trebek earlier this month. Backlash focused on his inside role in leading the search for a replacement host; his involvement in past bias lawsuits; and a number of sexist and anti-Semitic remarks he had previously made on a podcast.

The world is falling apart and this is what you report on? CNN, you can do better! Embarrassing! “We had hoped that when Mike stepped down from the host position at Jeopardy! it would have minimized the disruption” so admitting the disruption was the issue and not that you were employing this man in the first place? I'm not surprised. After all, he is a white man who offended some whiners and hurt their delicate little feelings.
