Steven Spielberg, who worked on many projects with Fenton as both director and producer, was among the first to weigh in on his passing. Among other things, Spielberg remembered Fenton as a passionate advocate for the actors he cast.

Fenton’s advocacy extended to those in his own profession, as well. In 1982, he co-founded the American Society of Casting Directors, which later became the Casting Society of America.

Wow. I was lucky enough to attend an acting workshop of his years ago. I was fascinated he worked with Elvis. Great memories of that event. One on one training I’ll never forget and still apply.

He cast a lot of great actors, and on classic movies, too.

Today we lost a legend in casting and a friend and mentor to actors everywhere.

Pretty amazing to have played a part in so many classic films. Bet he was full of countless incredible stories. Mike will undoubtedly be missed by many.
