While Microsoft has made some improvements to File Explorer in Windows 11, a developer has gone even further and created a new File Explorer app. Files, an app, already supports tabs and includes themes and other modern features.
We’re now waiting on Microsoft to officially announce tabs for File Explorer. Windows Insider chief Amanda Langowskithat the company would “only communicate about features that we are purposefully enabling for Insiders to try out and give feedback on.” Since tabs is a highly requested feature for File Explorer, we’d expect to hear an official Microsoft announcement soon.Subscribe to get the best Verge-approved tech deals of the week.
Donxzu 😄
I distinctly remember Microsoft announcing this feature for win10 but it seemingly never came to fruition. Anybody else remember that?
Finally done a good job Windows
MacOS has had this feature for years. 😏
Finally!
Finally 🔥
Oh me likey!
AvdanKamerKaan they saw your video m8
use this instead: Download: Documentation: it has more powerful features and the good news is it's open-source & 100% free.
Great to see Microsoft catching up with MacOS. Windows 11 is looking more like MacOS to
thank god i'm still on win10
Idk about the others but this is useful for me!!
Finally. Have had this on Mac for years and been waiting for MS to do the same.
This can't be real
Finally
Nice work. They need to do a lot of work
Finally 🥲😎
Users have this in any Linux distro or MacOS for years.
Ducking finally
When will stable version release for windows 11?
LOL Microsoft’s a total copycat from Apple
Wait what? I have file explorer
I can actually get on board with this one hey
It would be easier if they simply just copy Dolphin (KDE file manager). Should save them a lot of research time. And yes Dolphin has tabs.... for about 10+ years.
Finally
*Laughs in Dolphin KDE*
Backdate windows 11 for older computers🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
When will stable release for windows 11?
And I’m sure you can open tabs separately too 🤷🏾♂️
Finally!!! 🥳
Now add tabs to Windows and you'll be on to something.
I like the idea.
It's finally happening 🔥🔥
For all the people complaining, shut up. At least microsoft is updating windows 11 to be “better”
SHINJA $SHINJA SHIBNOBI SHIBNOBI_WALLET SHIBNOBI_BLOCKCHAIN SHINJASEASON SHINJA2022 SHINJAISTHENEXT1000X SHIBNOBI_DOJOSWAP SHIBNOBI_DOJOVERSE
They’re copying a feature Macs have had since 2013. I remember playing around with Finder tabs on OS X 10.9 on my old school’s old ass white polycarbonate MacBooks back in 2016
Thank God
they need to let us slide files again. like literally want to k!ll myself since they removed thay feature
I wonder what kind of tans are being added though because it depends because I’m not liking how windows 11 is right now
Game changer 🤯
I would rather they just made it as fast as the Finder and less prone to freezing. I switched to PC for better 3D graphics for the $ but File Explorer really slows down finding assets for game Dev.
Okay that is kinda wild
Had this since windows 7 man 11 catch up
tabs would be LIT
That would be so nice, I absolutely hate it when I have to open two different windows, it sucks.
Finally
When will they add a column view ? And allow 'select multiple files' - move to a new folder ? And screenshots being saved automatically with timestamp ? :)
Finally!
finally
Freaking finally! Jeez!
Sawakas
Cool
Something they should've done since windows 7 😒. Why the rush!
omg finally
I’m convinced when we get a color labelling and universal file tagging system in explorer
I have been using Clover for years. It is amazing having tabs in windows explorer
Yes plssss
I'm happy for this. As someone that often has multiple windows open copying and backing large up files between folders, I will get value from this. There are always whingers. They just want to whinge and vent.
Uh, welcome in 2002 I guest ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯
Gross. How abour they fix the file loading bug?
I'm on beta branch on my windows 11 (insider preview) . How can I enable this?
I wouldn't mind this on a small screen, but eh, Still would rather see more improvements on the taskbar since its less customizable than the one in Windows 10.
QTTabBar has been doing this for us since forever
More and more like dolphin every day
Thank you, Microsoft. Thank you.
That really?
Is this an actual reason to update? I need this on my life
Late but good dicision...
Finally 😎
Didn't windows used to have tabs?
They’re actually making Windows 11 a good and useful update instead of just a design overhaul
Now MacOS just has to let me cut and paste files and we’re even
long overdue 🙄
Interesting. Then maybe an open in private window
The thing I missed when switching from Linux Too bad my pc cannot handle 11
about damn time
That’s kinda neat. To bad I can’t get Windows 11..
Not sure that's an outstanding feature. But okay, whatever to make Win users feel better and macOS users feel better after paying for their overpriced hardware. 😀
GSUE53 endlich!
Long overdue.
About time!
Thank the heavens
That's honestly 🅿️
lol I already had this feature on my Linux for about 3 years
good
why not in win10 as well
They can go suck it with their dumb ass TPM requirements.
Way tooo late
Meanwhile I recently went back to 10.
Ooohhh but windows still feels bad to use, I’ll stay with my macOS
Finally
lots of empty space on top
it takes a lot of space. I prefer side tabs. above 'quick access'
Sexy
Finally! U guys that don't appreciate this are wack
Finally 🙏
Get this on win10 🤞
What an easy way to copy/move files from different folders and directories! I love windows 11
evernote 😒
Oh nautilus has this feature for centuries now 😂
Say it with me: COLUMN VIEW!!!
Ohh better late than never!!
Why not for Windows10 too?
YES! Finally.
Well, that took a lifetime - almost.
about time... Sick of using Stardock buggy groupy.
Fking FINALLYY!!!
Finally!! One of my favorite features from Mac Finder coming to windows.
Long overdue. But Microsoft are going all out with windows 11. And I like it.
what took them so long...
Why does it look like a shitty Android app?
Kaya macos?
It’s been 84 yearsssssss
😱
What would happen if one window instance were to freeze? Would it impact the other tabs as well?
About time
I just want drop and drag back like it was before Microsoft Windows
it's about time 😌 been using it on mac for a long time now
I haven't used windows in years, genuinely thought this was announced for windows 10
Another useless feature: actually it's the same as opening 2 windows. Tabs here really give us nothing, you can't even compare data between the 2 for example (🥰 Total Commander). They'd better returned the old behavior to the task bar...
I thought it was MacOS
Is this a dream?
Still icons on the task bar, no tabs = no upgrade!
After all these damn years
About fucking time
hope it comes to windows 10 as well
Finally
gnome's default file explorer on GNU/Linux platform already have this *new tab* facility since long back. Why make a fuss of such *old* Linux experience brought to proprietary ecosystem?
Finally
The long awaited feature, macOS users have been enjoying this feature for years now
Just do it
Finally! Hopefully they won't cancel it again. This is one big advantage macOS has and Windows needs desperately.
1/5 of the window is used by the GUI 😔
Announced ten times but never actually done.
