School officials in Michigan had legal grounds to search shooting suspect Ethan Crumbley's backpack and locker but did not do so, Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald told CNN on Monday.

"We don't know exactly if that weapon was in his bag, where it was, we just know it was in the school and he had access to it," McDonald told CNN's Brianna Keilar. When asked if school staff members might be prosecuted, McDonald replied,"We haven't ruled out charging anyone."McDonald also said there was evidence beyond what has already been revealed that she will use in prosecuting Crumbley and his parents in the shooting that left four students dead.

Exclusive video shows arrest of Crumbley parents 01:45James and Jennifer Crumbley have pleaded not guilty to the involuntary manslaughter charges, which were brought forth as prosecutors alleged they provided unrestricted access to the gun Ethan Crumbley is accused of using. Kubasungu nako Kwaba nefyakuchitika...balefwaya ukuya extinct? 😂😂😂

If they didn't know the parents bought him a gun, why would they?

I didn’t realise that when the school rings and says come pick up your child that I’m allowed to say no 🙄 parents and child at fault. The schools only fault is not bag and locker checking every day

Umm why wasn’t the school resource officer in the meeting?! Don’t blame the freaking educators. But why did they let the boy stay. But not deserving of criminal charges.

The school is liable.

She’s going after them all. Good on her. Something needs to be done.

I’ll do you one better. The school could’ve sent him home after the parent teacher conference. Instead they sent him back to class.

It absolutely blows my mind that they didn't send him home. I was still in high-school after columbine. There was a kid at my school who made a comment joking and he was suspended. Schools should learn from pass school shooting and inforce zero tolerance.

School staff did their job by reporting the behavior of the shooter. This is a parenting issue. Every day schl staff hv to deal with dbl duty. Across America, all schools should unite & review current policies & make changes. Document everything, Hold parents accountable.

Are school staff members now trained to handle a potential criminal investigation? They should have called the cops. That's why my kids school does if someone even whispers a rumor about a gun near the building. The actual fault, however, is with this kid and his family.

The simple facts are those counselors should have searched his bag. They missed an opportunity. From idiotic rules for dress codes to hair, to terrorizing active shooter drills and yet they didn’t search his backpack. It is inexcusable! Hold them accountable.

Yes, get them too!

Teachers Union preparing for war. They won’t like this. They are all about gun control, but actually dealing with bullies and identifying problem kids even when it means the “special” parents will be pissed? Never.

It's about time parents and schools take more responsibility for these incidents. I've worked with many kids who make threats to harm others at school and it can be an uphill battle to get anyone, parents or school personnel, to take the threats seriously.

All the signs were there. They let the victims down.

If it weren't so easy to buy a gun, this tragedy would not have happened at this Michigan school.

What medicines are this people on?

There is a serious problem in the USA starting with gun rights

Absolutely hold the school accountable too. Its 2021, we should have learned from the tragedies of the past. It takes a village to raise a shooter. Nail everyone who dropped the ball here.

This was awfully done btw. I had to turn away.

Didn’t the high school have a police officer on-site? Pretty common, even in my little leafy suburb.

A DNA test is needed. That boy looks nothing like either of those two people

Now there is a Christmas card photo
