Michael Che Responds To Criticism Over ‘SNL’ Gen Z Hospital Sketch

The latest episode, which saw Tesla CEO Elon Musk make his hosting debut, featured a segment titled “Gen Z Hospital” that played on the phrases and lingo, derived from AAVE sayings, that have gained popularity on social media platforms including Twitter and TikTok. The sketch featured cast members including Melissa Villasenior, Kate McKinnon, Bowen Yang, Heidi Gardner, Ego Nwodim and Mikey Day.

“I’ve been reading about how my “gen z” sketch was misappropriating AAVE and I was stunned cause what the f**k is ‘AAVE’? I had to look it up. Turns out it’s an acronym for ‘African American vernacular english.’ You know, AAVE! That ol’ saying that actual black people use in conversation all the time…,” thehost wrote. “Look, the sketch bombed. I’m used to that. I meant no offense to the ‘aave’ community. I love aave.

I hope loads of the GEN Zs watched this and realized how ridiculous and stupid they sound. I fear for the future if that skit was an indication. Can’t even imagine them in job interviews.

My 14 and 18 yr old kids could not stop laughing. Watched it four times!

A black man wrote the skit, so what? That doesn't make blacks claims any less legit. The white media knows how much whites and their non-black minority minions dispise blacks. This story is a small piece of ANTI-BLACK, red meat to get them through their day.

I would have loved a skit on all the never ending acronyms and labels churning out of the hashtag addict community to use against anyone who doesn’t know or care about the latest trending title so they can perversely feel like they fit in more with nobody.
