Director Michael Bay surprised AmbulanceMovie co-stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Jake Gyllenhaal with an improvised stunt on set when two helicopters unexpectedly came flying right at them.

In a recent round-table, director Michael Bay and the main cast of Ambulance recall a hi-octane chase scene for the action-thriller, a scene in which many of its elements were improvised.

Bay is known for his bombastic blockbusters that are chock-full of car chases, explosions, shoot-outs, and fistfights. His action-packed credits include The Rock, Bad Boys, 6 Underground, and the first five films of the giant-robot-fighting Transformers film series. Although most of the over-the-top set pieces that have become one of Bay's signatures are planned ahead of time, the director likes to add to the scenes and improvise moments on the day of shooting.

"[Michael Bay] said, 'We're going to drive under a bridge.' I said, 'Well, what are we shooting?' He said, 'Just drive under the bridge.' And then we were under a bridge, and he said, 'Okay, listen. Here's your rifle. There are going to be two helicopters that are going to come fly under the bridge. And I want you to shoot at them'...And then two helicopters came out of nowhere and flew under a bridge.

Abdul-Mateen recalls hopping onto the set radio and telling the director that the scene was the"craziest sh*t I've ever done." The actor actually set up his phone in the ambulance as he was driving and got on a video call with his friend during shooting because he knew that he may never get another chance to do a stunt like that again. Gyllenhaal jokingly asked Abdul-Mateen,"But how much L.A.

Formerly a director of commercials and music videos, Bay quickly made a name for himself with his action films featuring his trademark fast-paced explosive sequences, affectionately known by his fans as"Bayhem." Audiences expect to be blown away in the theater and the director has always delivered on that promise.
