Due to a severe drought, authorities in central Mexico have decided to stop extracting water from a reservoir that houses a luxury lakeside community and is rapidly drying up. The residents around the Valle de Bravo dam had protested against the capital city's water extraction from the lake. The reservoir has been emptied by three-quarters, negatively impacting tourism and the real estate sector. Regional official Citlalli Peraza stated that authorities have chosen to stop extracting water from Valle de Bravo and instead supply Mexico City from the relatively less populated El Bosque dam, which is a bit further away from the capital. The El Bosque reservoir is just over half full.

CIUDAD DE MÉXICO — Debido a una grave sequía, autoridades del centro de México decidieron el martes dejar de extraer agua de un embalse que alberga una comunidad lacustre de lujo y que se está secando rápidamente. Los residentes de los alrededores de la presa de Valle de Bravo —una zona salpicada de casas caras a unas dos horas al oeste de Ciudad de México— habían protestado porque la capital estaba extrayendo agua del lago.

Los pobladores de Valle de Bravo se quejan de que su embalse se está vaciando debido a la negativa de Ciudad de México a reparar las tuberías rotas que desperdician gran parte del agua. Según la Comisión Nacional del Agua, en lo que va de año ha llovido en todo el país un 29,6% menos que en un año normal.
