Chris Bassitt likely will decline a mutual option that is worth $19 million for next season and thus will become a free agent for the first time in his career. In an impressive rotation, Bassitt stood out this year. The 34-year-old pitched a career-high 181 ²/₃ innings, the most on the staff, and posted a 3.42 ERA that generally improved as the season went on.The Mets were pleased with the production in Bassitt’s first season after playing six with Oakland. His former manager with the A’s was not surprised.

“When his cheeks get a little red and so forth, that means he’s in real compete mode, and I’ve seen that a lot out of him. I’m proud of him to where he’s gotten in his career.”
