Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, announced Sunday it will begin rolling out a paid subscription program allowing users and businesses to verify their accounts with a blue badge.

, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the new verification system, called"Meta Verified," will cost $11.99 month on web or $14.99 a month for iPhone users.

The announcement comes after Elon Musk, the billionaire Tesla founder and owner of Twitter, created a paid-for verification system known as Twitter Blue after taking over the company last year. Twitter also Friday that users who do not subscribe to Twitter Blue will soon have to give up using text messages as a two-factor authentication method to secure their accounts, and instead must use other verification methods.

According to Zuckerberg, the subscription service will increase authenticity and security across Meta's services by verifying users accounts with a government ID. He said this will create extra protection against impersonators, and subscribers will have direct access to customer support.

Ha ha ha, Fakebook is going down, only the older generation even uses it. I would delete Facebook before I ever paid a dime for it

Elon Musk leads everything. It is truly something to see in real time. EVs, Rockets, social media, etc. what is next! Thanks

What is a verified account?

Anymore I find no value in having a Facebook, I have just about went exclusively Twitter. I find most of my news on Twitter as the news media doesn't cover much. Thank you elonmusk!

elonmusk

What a novel idea. Where did they get it ... elonmusk

nothing but a grift

Nope

Wow. Following elonmusk's lead. The same Musk who all y'alls were attacking. Personally I would have tossed all of you in jail after your Capitol Hill confession of your HATE and CENSORSHIP, but I guess a forcing you to do a paid subscription is a start.

Not paying for Facebook, not paying for Twitter.

Pass

It’s about time to end the existence of this communistic social media

The internet quickly became a tool of information (an equalizer for the regular folk, if you will). SM came to be a great unification tool. The powers to be hate both ppl informed and unifying; therefore the internet must be used for misinformation and SM must have limitations.

Sounds familiar. Musk Twitter?

What Elon Musk has been trying to do

Why

No thank you, don’t need verification

VahidAfkari, The brother of the executed wrestler, NavidAfkari, has been in solitary confinement for more than 900days for participating protests. His sentence is 25 years in prison plus 2 years ban from leaving the country. IRGCterrorists

EmadGhavidel the Rashti rapper who shared his cafe's warning letter last night said: Tomorrow 'yesterday'I will close my shop due to the strike Now he has been kidnapped by intelligence agents In the last 5 months Emad has been kidnapped for the second time and may be in trouble

no free speech on Facebook or instagram very few people will buy into that. The only reason Twitter users get verified is to support Elon Musk free speech...now poor people will be forced to choose between twitter and Facebook as they can only afford to verify on one platform.

Monkey see, Monkey Do. Monkey pee all over you.

Beginning of the end for social media. I'm grateful

So once again elonmusk has shown to be a pathfinder. Who, despite all their whining, the tech industry will follow.

Stealing ideas from Twitter LOL

I have nothing against this initiative although everyone knows it's a cash grab. Nonetheless there are customers willing to pay for this service to make their online profiles more transparent. Meta simply decided they can generate additional revenue.

Somebody is copying Elon.🤔

I won't sign up for it.

Social media should be paying their users / content creators.

Following Tweeter's Foot Step.

Hasta mas caro q Twitter

Having to pay for social media is a way to get rid of targeted advertising and of the monopolization of the ' tech ' sector. Even if that's not their intent, it would make it more sensible to regulate them

Wonder if elonmusk will sue them for stealing his idea? He'll probably end up owning them too.

Facebook and Twitter are going to charge a handful of people and millions of people are going to suddenly decide they can live without fascist book and Twitter. Then fascist book and Twitter will get government handouts .....hide and watch....bet I'm right.

Oh, I guess Meta and Twitter are merging. ProsecuteElonMusk

Did you not learn from Twitter fiasco?

Look at elonmusk setting a standard for social media

Newspapers have paywalls everywhere. There’s a limit on what I’m willing to buy. Be careful with those blue checks.

Where is the coverage of the anti-war rally in D.C? Are you warmongers? Is this why you're not providing coverage? Shame! Watch LIVE here since CBS can't do its job.

Stock price drops the next day

Lol

I guess all our personal data wasn't payment enough. Now they want to charge us to keep stealing and selling our data.

Omg not them too!!!! WTH is with these social media platforms wanting to get so dang greedy!!!
