‘Late Night With The Devil' Breaks Streaming Service Record As Low-Budget Horror Finds Audience The European Union will investigate Meta ’s handling of disinformation and deceptive advertising on Instagram and Facebook , the bloc announced Tuesday, a probe that couldon a Russian -backed influence campaign and may lead to millions in fines—amid growing concerns in the United States and Europe about foreign interference in upcoming elections.

Meta has likely failed to “diligently assess and adequately mitigate risks” related to Facebook’s and Instagram’s effects on “civil discourse and electoral processes and other systemic risks,” the European Commission said.Reuters last week she expects disinformation to feature “very heavily” on social media when the bloc’s member states vote for a new parliament in June, including possible interference from Russia, China and Iran.

Meta said in a statement it will continue cooperating with the European Commission’s investigation, noting it has a “well-established process for identifying and mitigating risks on our platforms.”Meta has five days to respond to the European Commission’s claims and say how the company will assess the situation. The European Commission could fine Meta up to 6% of its global revenue if the company is found in violation of the DSA.
