BALTIMORE — Patients who have complications after dermatologic cosmetic procedures are prone to high rates of a host of mental health issues, ranging from anxiety disorder andThe study used an anonymous 40-question survey circulated to a Facebook cosmetic complication support group. Seventy-one of 100 individuals completed the questionnaire, reporting significantly higher rates of mental health issues after their complications than before.
Yet, the research into psychological distress in patients with dermatologic complications is minimal, Murray added."We think that that body dysmorphic disorder is prevalent for patients seeking dermatology or plastic surgery services, but I don't think either of the specialties do a great job in screening people for that when they come for treatment, so I think a lot of it goes undiagnosed.
Self-reported complications included scarring , hyperpigmentation , erythema , burn , blisters , and hypopigmentation ; 71% characterized their complications as"other," and one respondent reported multiple complications.
