Markle and Harry, who still hold the titles of Duke and Duchess of Sussex despite giving up their roles as working royals and moving to California in 2020, were already in Texas for Markle’s appearance on a panel at this year’s South By Southwest conference. The Sussexes headed to Uvalde, some 160 miles southwest of the conference’s host city of Austin, to join the family of Irma Garcia, a schoolteacher at Robb Elementary School who was one of 21 people killed by the 18-year-old gunman.
” In the days immediately following the 2022 mass shooting, Markle made a personal trip to a memorial for the victims. She was seen placing flowers at the memorial and donating food and water to volunteers at a blood bank. Her then-spokesman said she was there in her capacity “as a mother.” Markle and Harry are the parents of two small children, Archie and Lilibet.
