The Duchess of Sussex began her first episode since the hiatus by recalling the mixing pot of cultures she grew up surrounded by in Los Angeles and how “the multitude of Asian cultures was a huge part of that,” from visiting Little Tokyo on the weekends to enjoying a Korean spa day with her mom. She added, however, that she wasn't aware until recently of the negative and prejudiced characterizations of Asian women that exist out there.
The royal then invited Cho on to explain the “Dragon Lady” stereotype which she cited as originating in the “fantasy of Orientalism.” The comedian continued, “It's similar to the femme fatale…a woman who is beautiful and deadly. Because we can't just be beautiful. We have to have, like, it has to come at a cost and it's kind of like evil queen adjacent. But it's also so pinned to this idea that Asian-ness is an inherent threat. That our foreignness is somehow ‘gonna getcha.
In another segment, Ling revealed that her decision to pursue journalism was also largely a response to not seeing anyone who looked like her on TV. “To be honest with you, the reason why I pursued broadcast journalism at all was because growing up, it's the only path that I thought was available to me. I was someone who grew up in a broken home,” she said. “My parents were divorced when I was 7, and the television was always on in my home. It was like my favorite babysitter.
Lol, oh please…….
Puke.
The “fantasy of orientalism?” She’s so cringe.
Cringe

Conversations like this is is how you educate & advocate in a positive way! Thanks you ArchetypesWithMeghan
I thought it was… a bit of a strange choice to introduce a podcast about Asian stereotypes by lumping a bunch of them together and talking about enjoying the food and spa treatments, but maybe that’s just me.
Blocking Vanity Fair and will never buy another issue. Will tell my sister to do the same.
Have zero interest as Markle has a dangerous personality disorder and is cruel. Read the Bower and Low book.
I thought Meghan was poor growing up and had to eat at the sizzler? Turns out she was at Korean spas eating noodles naked 😂😂 the girl couldn’t lay straight in bed she’s a pathological liar!
Sue__Suede I actually learnt something listening to that today. I’m not familiar with Asian stereotypes and it gave me something to think about.
Blocking Vanity Fair.
While the archetype doesn't affect me individually i was glad to listen in and learn. I actually didn't know i hold some of the biases mentioned Archetypes
Very racist on her part.
w_selwa 👍 Bon travail à tous l'équipe ♥️
Podcast sucks.
Disgusting. They use it when it's to their advantage.
You didn't need to bring the dead along.
Facile and vapid junior high discussion. Sounds like they're living in the 1980s and just discovered feminism.
drachenovska This was such an incredible and eye-opening episode!!!
Margaret Cho during her whole Career mocked ther asian Family , now she sits down and discusses stereotypes? Hypocrite!
The unconscious of fools who do not let go of situations says that they discuss them over and over again and it is always to defend their position, not to really analyze anything but to 'be right', otherwise they feel threatened
She's white....
I don't care about this fake Duchess of Transylvania! She's destroyed Harry's life 👎🙄
Feminist...?
Learn a lot today about Orientalism hope soon we will see more Asian woman on TV not only in mean rolls

Lucy Liu wrote a thoughtful Washington Post article about Kill Bill, and was fine with it. And Austin Powers is a broad parody: Fook-Mi and fook-Yu appear, as do Allota Fagina, Ivana Humpalot, Dixie Normous and Felicity Shagwell.
I have learned a lot❤️
