When Kerby Jean-Raymond of Pyer Moss debuted his Spring 2020 show last month at the Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, New York, the fashion community was in complete awe of his vision and dedication to showcase the intricacies of being black America, specifically touching on the black woman experience. The 3,000-person-capacity venue was sold out on Sunday, September, 8th with fashionistas and notable editors brimming to the rim with excitement and anticipation of what was to come next.
After the whirlwind of the Pyer Moss show, I had the opportunity to speak to Escovedo about her experience producing the “Sister” show, what led her to entrepreneurship and what’s next for Beyond8.What led you to entrepreneurship and the creation of your own event production company, Beyond8?My mother owned her own company when I was in high school, a DME company called Rest EZ.
Just start, do something - don’t worry about how big or small your efforts are don’t waste another minute thinking about your dreams start creating them Use social media to your advantage and as a resource in a respectful way. Share your work and connect with people, I’ve even hired producers that have direct messaged me. Even larger-scale productions in multiple cities domestically and worldwide. We will be in Miami for Basel and Ghana in December to commemorate the Year of Return.
One project that I can speak about that I’m honored to be working on is with MOFAD. We produced their annual gala in May of this year and will be revealing the exhibition that will include the Ebony Magazine Test Kitchen in early 2020 at The Africa Center.
