Meet Peaches, the dachshund delighting customers at Austin Pets Alive! Thrift stores

Peaches the dachshund has made quite the reputation for herself at the Austin Pets Alive! Thrift stores.Janet Hollifield, Peaches’ owner, accepted the position as manager at APA! Thrift four years ago.

“That’s when I started bringing Peaches along with me every day. She can’t stay away from me, and I from her,” Hollifield said. “I didn’t see this coming, but she quickly became the main attraction. People come to our thrift store just to see her. Sometimes, on my day off. And I have to let people know she needs a day off, too.”When Peaches was six years old, she developed an injury in her back that left her paralyzed.

“People would come in having a bad day or with something going on in their life. Then they see this tiny little dog rollin’ around the store. You’d see them squat down on the floor to get on Peaches’ level and love on her,” Hollifield said. “They’d leave the store so much happier.” Peaches visits all three APA! Thrift locations but can usually be found at the location on Oltorf Street. Anyone who can’t make it to the store in person can keep up with her adventures on her
