News organizations preparing for next week's vote count are preaching caution. The onslaught of early voting and mail-in ballots will complicate what used to be a fairly cut-and-dried process of reporting election results.

FILE - In this Feb. 25, 2020 file photo, the monitor of a television camera shows the set stage for a Democratic presidential primary debate, in Charleston, S.C. Election nights always bring surprises, but media organizations preparing to follow the vote count next week are preaching caution this year. The increase in early and mail-in voting is complicating what used to be a fairly cut-and-dried process of reporting how the story will unfold.

“We need to prepare ourselves for a different kind of election night,” said Feist, CNN’s Washington bureau chief, “and the word I keep using is ‘patience.’”Nearly half of people polled recently by the Pew Research Center said they intend to follow election night returns closely. It’s easy to see this year eclipsing 2008′s record of 71.5 million people who watched for results, and many will have laptops, tablets or smartphones ready for a multi-screen experience.

“There is an odd combination of anticipation and uncertainty about this election night, more than any other election night I can remember,” said David Bohrman, a television veteran who this year is producing the CBS News coverage. Pennsylvania and Wisconsin are prohibited by state law from processing mail ballots until Election Day. It can be a cumbersome process, and since neither state has experience counting as many ballots as are expected this year, it may be days before their results are known.

_Politics This is what the Dumocrates want chaos and extended election balloting to try and steal the election.

So mail in voting makes things difficult. Huh. That’s not what all you “journalists “ have been reporting?

Can't be any worse than the fact that I live in a state where the winner is announced with 0% precincts reporting at 8:01 the night of the election.

Inconceivable! The legacy media is suggesting truth in spite of a potential drop in ratings.

So having ballots in hand early will cause more problems than receiving them all on the same day? crackheadlogic

AP, Trump will lose quickly on November 3rd, but you will cover the election for the next 2 months because Trump and republicans will sue the entire country.
