Sen. Martha McSally, a 26-year military veteran, said Wednesday that she was raped in the Air Force by a superior officer.
“I stayed silent for many years, but later in my career, as the military grappled with the scandals, and their wholly inadequate responses, I felt the need to let some people know I too was a survivor,” she said at the hearing. “I was horrified at how my attempt to share generally my experiences was handled. I almost separated from the Air Force at 18 years of service over my despair. Like many victims, I felt like the system was raping me all over again.
Discussions of sexual assault and harassment in the armed services have become part of larger debates on Capitol Hill in the past year. McSally has previously spoken about being sexually harassed as the first woman fighter pilot in the Air Force and“I share the disgust of the failures of the military system and many commanders who failed in their responsibilities,” McSally said Wednesday.
So you have a history of been sexually abused, but you voted to confirm a sex offender to the SC. Not sure how to call that
She's gotta name names. Nobody is gonna believe this anymore.
I am sure she remembers every detail unlike Blasey Fraud
Do u trust the system now, sweet pea?
Where is your unqualified requirement to believe now, that you espoused so loudly during the Kavanaugh hearings?
While I respect her for coming forward it angers me even more that she couldn’t or wouldn’t give the respect she was denied to Christine Blasey Ford.
Name him.
SenMcSallyAZ 's rapist is still walking free because she was afraid to speak out for good reason. The system protects predators. Sen. McSally, it's time for that to change. It's time to hold them accountable.
I’m sure there are so many other human violations and the women victims fear career backlash by superiors, and will not come forward.
My heart breaks for her, but why the secrecy? She recently said her H.S. track coach molested her, and she did name him. It’s a very personal issue, but she IS the system now. The Senate is a powerful platform and she could do a lot of good by ID’ing this man. I hope she does.
Sorry. If the allegation is more than 48 hours old, and you didn't call the cops. I don't believe it. Yes I have heard all of the excuses. I don't believe it.
She didn't name her assailant because she still doesn't trust the system.
It’s a hard time for coming forward, always someone blaming you, not the one that did it. To sweep under the rug or throw out with the trash. Always to keep it hushed.
The president you support feels really sorry that happened to you. Oh wait...
So she says
CindyCinnis Odd that she is a Republican who supports gutting women's healthcare and is part of the GOP who want to force women to have their rapists babies. 🤷♀️🤔
So we’re just hearing about this now? All the while she faces tough competition from Mark Kelly.
She is truly an American Hero!!!
This happens a lot in the military.
I have no doubt SenMcSallyAZ wasn’t the first nor the last to not trust the system in any branch of our military. Would like to hope it’s better but sure it’s not fixed. Too late to prosecute but not too late to fix...
Was the Cinc at the time Bill Clinton? May explain a lot.
I don’t blame her. The military has an abysmally poor record of ignoring survivors of assault.
Where she was during Kavanaugh testimony to silent ridiculing Republicans?
I'm sorry to hear this Many families have endured This type of tragedy THIS world is Truly an EVIL Place that by the Grace of God the Strong Survive 🙏
JrThatcher Although I am sure this great revelation will do damage to the system let us not forget about the cases of sexual assault it does catch.
Stories like this are coming out
That's harrowing....but it makes me wonder why she didn't believe Christine Blasey Ford
I sincerely feel badly for her, but she endorsed Trump and voted for Kavanaugh so....
Sorry for her, but I did not need to know this. The MPs did.
So?
These foolish men who feel so entitled!!!
