The large encampment near the White House, originally scheduled to be cleared in April, will now be cleared Feb. 15 instead, a National Park Service letter said.

. NPS officials posted new signs around the park in recent days announcing the change of date. The encampment originally was scheduled to be cleared April 15.

A letter dated Jan. 27 and sent to Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services Wayne Turnage, from the superintendent for the National Mall and Memorial Parks, Jeffrey P. Reinbold, describes criminal activity observed at the park by U.S. Park Police officers.“We acknowledge DMHHS’ assessment that this encampment‘s size and constitution has surpassed the District’s ability to provide effective social services at this location,” the letter states.

The McPherson Square encampment has become the largest in the District, after the city and the NPS cleared several sprawling homeless encampments over the past year and a half, including

Nothing gets bureaucrats more excited than proclaiming their intent to solve a problem in the distant future that never should have existed in the first place.

For what? They aren't bothering anyone. They better have somewhere for them folks to go that's indoors!

Taking what shelter they have access to is a death sentence. This is a waste of a national capital.

Because all the rich know how to do is “clear” and not solve the issue. Just kicking the can down the street for optics. The rich don’t care about Americans. You can see it daily.

Should have cleared them out long ago.
