to stick together and pass the package quickly.McConnell called the sprawling package"wildly expensive" and warned that Republicans will oppose the bill"in every way that we can" in a Tuesdaypress briefing."It is my hope that at the end, Senate Republicans will unanimously oppose it just like House Republicans did," he said.

Meanwhile, Biden aggressively pushed Senate Democrats to unify and rally around the package in a virtual conference call. Some moderates in the party such as SenatorJoe Manchinof West Virginia have publicly opposed some provisions of the bill for being too costly, but Biden urged all members to get it passed fast, even if they don't accept the full package.

Drew Angerer/GettyThe House of Representatives passed the economic relief bill, called the America Rescue Plan, largely along party lines in a 219-212 vote on Friday night. The aid measure now advances to the Senate, where some provisions are expected to be amended, including the $15 minimum wage hike. All successful amendments will then be sent back to the House for a final vote.

With the Senate split 50-50 and Vice PresidentKamala Harrishaving the tie-breaking vote, every single Democrat will need to align on the package to pass it using the budget process called reconciliation. All 50 Senate Republicans are expected to oppose the bill.

Manchin, a moderate from one of the country's poorest states, has said he would oppose the current legislation and is using his crucial vote tointo lowering the income threshold for the $1,400 stimulus checks and decrease the $400 weekly federal unemployment benefits to $300.

Nice to see Mitch and the GOP are willing to fuck their own constituents throats. Should make for some great campaign ads for the democrats. Cut registered republicans out of stimulus package altogether. That should make Mitch happy. How can this Backwood hill---le call himself a U.S. Senator, knowing how the people of Kentucky and the Nation is hurting economic wise, and he will vote it down, putting his party first.

Can always count on Mitch to simply say no to any Dems bill these people need to start getting along in that house or this will not turn out well. fricken ego maniac power mongers. so gross This fight by McConnell looks bad politically but it has basis and honestly may be the right thing to do. Let’s reopen our economy and get vaccines to those who want it while making smart decisions to personal hygiene.

Too little has been said of McConnell’s stated goal of denying Democrats any success. Creep and obstructionist par excellence. We always hear how weak Dems always cave to everything through compromise. Why wouldn’t Republicans fight back with a counter bill guaranteeing $2,000 checks and gutting the spending they argue is pork? It’s trying to cancel ACA without a replacement all over again.
