GOP members of the newly created House subcommittee investigating the 'weaponization' of the federal government discussed the possibility of issuing subpoenas during their first closed-door meeting.

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, House Oversight Chair Jim Jordan, and GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik. Photo: Al Drago/Bloomberg via Getty Imagesdiscussed the possibility of issuing subpoenas during their first closed-door meeting on Friday. It's a clear indication of the aggressive posture and approach that the committee has been expected to take in probing federal law enforcement including the Justice Department and FBI.

House Democratic leadership has indicated they will participate in the committee but have not yet named their members. They will have no substantive influence on the direction of the subcommittee's oversight work.Congressional committees conducting oversight generally send out requests for documents and witness testimony before threatening to issue subpoenas to enforce those requests.

Hum, if only a precedent by the Republicans in congress hadn’t been set to negate requirement to adhere to a subpoena. Ah well, whatever

The same committee subpoenas McCarthy ignored?

You can bet none of the subpoenas will be an attempt to find more info about the January 6 insurrection.

More smoke and mirrors to cover the corporate fraud of their donors.

I don't think congressional subpoenas carry much weight these days, thanks to Trump's gop quislings, like Jim_Jordan. 👍

I hope D’s treat them with the same reverence as the R’s did.

Folks can just ignore these subpoenas just like the Republicans ignore them.

Two out of the three people in this picture ignored Congressional supoenas, no?

Makes sense; not as if there are actual serious issues for them to attend to. GOP

Ask them if they'll be sending subpoenas to Barr and Durham to discuss their weaponization of the DOJ.

FAFO What goes around comes around. Democrats on the receiving side of their own policy

Let's go.... They should have started day 1.

I thought the repubs decided there were no such things as subpoena's anymore a couple of years ago.

closed door meeting kinda says it all

And OJ is looking for Nicole’s killer.

Good thing they set the precedent of congress ignoring subpoenas.

The recipients of these congressional subpoenas should do exactly what Gym Jordan did when he was served with a congressional subpoena. He ignored it.

I say all the Dems who get them wipe their asses with it and say fk subpoenas

Yea! Go subpoena yourselves!!

Anyone subpoenaed should invoke the “Gym Jordan Precedent”

Which I hope all Dem and DOJ officials will treat with the exact seriousness that GOP House members displayed when called in by the Jan. 6th Committee.

Ignore.
