Mayor Dave Bronson said three shootings in three weeks by Anchorage Police officers shooting a person while responding to crime reports does not show an increase in violence.

FastCast digital headlines for Tuesday, June 4, 2024.ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Anchorage Mayor Dave Bronson said Anchorage police officers shooting someone for a third time while responding to crime reports in three weeks does not show an increasing trend toward violence in Anchorage.— the second shooting in just three days — happened as their officers fatally shot a man they say pulled a gun during a confrontation Monday outside the Anchorage Senior Activity Center in Fairview.

Hours before two men were arraigned on shooting charges Tuesday morning, Bronson also told Alaska’s News Source he remains confident in the job Anchorage Police Department Chief Designee Bianca Cross is doing. In a statement regarding the June 3 incident, police say officers responded about 9:30 p.m. to a report of gunfire near 19th Avenue and Karluk Street. A passerby identified two men in the senior center parking lot as being involved in the shooting, police said.

Bourdukofsky has been charged with murder, weapons misconduct, and assault in the death of Joe. Police shot him as he tried to flee, according to a criminal complaint.
