The Nationals ace and maybe baseball's best pitcher begins the season at 34, knowing full well what that means for modern hurlers.

Max Scherzer is reaching an age where most pitchers decline. He's determined to do the opposite. By Jesse Dougherty Jesse Dougherty Reporter covering the Washington Nationals. Email Bio Follow March 27 at 7:00 AM WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — If Max Scherzer is right, if this season becomes one more reason to look past his age, it will have started right here, on a bullpen mound the morning of Feb. 14, with a grunt and a gathering and a game playing inside his head.

‘It doesn’t describe me’ Scherzer looked at the ceiling of the Nationals’ spring training clubhouse while he considered the numbers. Scherzer has been durable in Washington. The first answer came with a laugh: “I feel like if I talk to you about it, Freddie Freeman is listening on the other end. I don’t want to tell Freddie Freeman what I am trying to get better at.”

“That’s a very minor thing, but with Max you can look for those little nuances,” Lilliquist said this March. “But with the way he prepares, and takes care of his body, and how much time he puts in to breaking himself down, we shouldn’t be talking about why he can do it at 35. Hell, he could maybe do this at 45.”

Boeing charged airlines for additional safety features on 737 Max jetsThe NTSB is joining Ethiopian and French investigators investigating the cause of the Ethiopian Airlines flight that crashed shortly after takeoff earlier this month, killing 157 people. They didn't pay extra for the options . . . This is a flaw in design obviously. If some sensor is throwing an error, you should put the indicator for it near the off switch, I would think. There shouldn't be a question as to what's wrong when seconds count. Seems like they knew the flaw and decided to monetize it. US junk
