This year’s alternating season start is just part of an opening gauntlet in which the Mavericks will play 10 of their first 16 games on the road.

Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving says he has experienced somewhat-similar early schedules during his previous 13 NBA seasons, but “not like this. This year’s alternating start is just part of an opening gauntlet in which Dallas will play 10 of its first 16 games on the road. The problem is the back-and-forth nature of the schedule has afforded little chance for continuity building — or practice time to clean up episodes of loose play.
