Mattel, the global toy company, has announced plans to release 14 movies based on their famous toys. With over 40 films in development, Mattel Films aims to become a major entertainment franchise.

With reportedly over 40 films in some type of development stages at the relatively new Mattel Films, the famous toy brand is set to mark itself as one of the biggest new entertainment franchise s seemingly for years to come.

David Callaham initially wrote the script for Masters of the Universe, but it is now being rewritten by Chris Butler. 12 Barney Status: In Development Close An untitled Barney movie is surprisingly in development with Daniel Kaluuya of Get Out fame attached to produce. Kaluuya has stated that he intends the film to be "surrealistic" and made for millennials with a style similar to A24's independent and highly original productions. The upcoming Barney film will seemingly be much different from the kid's show Barney & Friends.

10 Major Matt Mason Status: Confirmed Major Matt Mason will finally be given a live-action movie after an original 2011 project starring Tom Hanks was put on hold. There were also initial attempts to get Robert Zemeckis to direct the film which remains unconfirmed. Hanks, however, is still attached to the project since he also co-wrote the original screenplay and will likely appear in the film.

7 Magic 8 Ball Status: Rumored A Magic 8 Ball horror movie is supposedly in the works, although it remains unknown what production house and studio will be behind it. Mattel has tried to make a Magic 8 Ball movie for decades and will finally have the opportunity to in the near future. At one point, Blumhouse was rumored to be attached to the project, but they have since distanced themselves from that claim.
