SALINAS, Calif. -- Firefighters have contained a massive fire at the Taylor Farms Processing Facility in Salinas after the blaze tore through the building on Abbott Street overnight, prompting evacuations.A risk of explosion and toxic smoke from the raging fire prompted the Salinas Fire Department to evacuate nearby residents but those have since been lifted.
Fire officials are asking the community to avoid the highway and use Old Stage Road as an alternate route. No people or produce were inside the plant, which was closed for the season and was scheduled to reopen Monday.
