Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey is turning a former correctional facility into a temporary shelter to house migrants.
“The Town was informed on Friday that the decommissioned Bay State Correctional Center has been designated as a temporary emergency shelter by the Healey Administration,” Casanova-Davis’s statement, issued on Monday, By law Massachusetts is a “right to shelter” state. The state must provide adequate living spaces, clean and decent surroundings, pure air and water, sanitation, and other civic amenities to families, pregnant women, and migrant families in an attempt to reduce homelessness.a statement in which she expressed concerns regarding “the impacts of an influx of more than 400 people” to a town with a population of roughly 11,500 people.
