Sanders is looking to attach a bill to make major revisions to Medicare to an infrastructure bill Democrats have just begun to craft, POLITICO’s Burgess Everett reports. Among his priorities: lowering Medicare's eligibility age from 65 to 55 or 60 and expanding the program to cover dental work, glasses and eye surgeries and hearing aids. He’s also urging Democrats to force Medicare to enter into negotiations with drug companies and use the savings to pay for the program expansion.
Sanders’ plans track with growing support among House Democrats for a “kitchen sink” approach to the next big bill they try to pass via reconciliation, a process that allows bills to pass the Senate with only a simple majority. House progressives are also discussing including drug pricing and climate legislation in such a package.
