Retton, 55, was hospitalized for about two weeks in the ICU, where she had been "fighting for her life" and unable to breathe on her own, Kelley previously wrote. Last week, Kelley noted that her mother's path to recovery was "steadily progressing."Retton's four daughters have since raised more than $450,000 through a crowdfunding campaign to pay her hospital bills.

A five-time Olympic medalist, Retton shot to superstardom at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, where the then-16-year-old became the first American to win an Olympic individual all-round gold. After nabbing silver in the vault, bronze in the uneven bars and floor, and another silver in the team event, Retton became the most decorated athlete at that year's Games.
