WASHINGTON, DC - MARCH 7: U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene shouts at President Joe Biden as he delivers the State of the Union address before a joint session of Congress in the House chamber at the Capital building on March 7, 2024 in Washington, DC. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has filed a motion to oust House Speaker Mike Johnson after expressing anger about the government funding bill.In a video on social media, Green expressed her frustration calling it an "omnibus bill.
"No Republican in good conscience can vote for the uniparty minibus. This is not a Republican bill," she wrote alongside the video on X. "It is a Chuck Schumer, Democrat-controlled bill coming from the “Republican-controlled” House. The Speaker of the House should not bring it to the floor."in a similar fashion.
A majority vote is required to remove the speaker and it is not immediately clear how the House would act. The House is set for a two-week recess after Friday's decision on the government funding bill so the motion won't be considered until after it returns. The House will return to session on April 9.“Speaker Johnson always listens to the concerns of members, but is focused on governing. He will continue to push conservative legislation that secures our border, strengthens our national defense and demonstrates how we’ll grow our majority,”spokesman Raj Shah said.
On Steve Bannon's podcast Friday morning, Greene accused Johnson of giving too much away to President Joe Biden and Democrats and suggested she was seriously weighing a motion to vacate the Speakership.
