In 2019, she played Sharon Tate in Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” and the year before, she took on Queen Elizabeth I in “Mary Queen of Scots.” In a career-making performance — for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe, a Screen Actors Guild Award and an Oscar — Robbie portrayed disgraced figure skater Tonya Harding in 2017’s “I, Tonya.”
The awards recognition capped off a year in which Robbie created a stir with her affectionate portrayal of Tate in “Once Upon a Time” and filmed “: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn,” a spinoff from the 2016 film “Suicide Squad” that she conceived more than four years ago. The movie, which Robbie stars in and produced, hits theaters on Feb. 7. She is currently shooting James Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad,” a sequel to the original film, in Atlanta. It’s slated for release Aug.
She had met Ackerley and McNamara when they were assistant directors on the romantic drama “Suite Française” the year before, and after getting drunk together after the London premiere of “The Wolf of Wall Street,” they all decided to share a house in the Clapham neighborhood of London. The company was born at their kitchen table out of Robbie’s desire to create her own work.
“We were looking at our own work in a different way,” Robbie says. “Some of our projects felt extremely relevant and more urgent to tell. And other ones felt irrelevant.”” felt urgent. It features Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary and Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya. It’s written by a woman , directed by a woman and has women producers . The movie is an ambitious leap forward for LuckyChap — a $75 million, R-rated, Warner Bros./DC Entertainment production.
“An hour and a half later, we were drunk on a Wednesday morning, and we’ve been friends ever since,” Robbie says. “The ideas started flowing.” In person at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills, Robbie exudes enthusiasm, speaking effusively about subjects such as the “Harry Potter” novels , Kayla’s Sapphic chemistry with Kate McKinnon’s “Bombshell” character, Jess Carr and LuckyChap’s office — it’s easy to picture that drunken, brainstorming meal.
Robbie and Hodson would meet to watch movies, and to discuss “comics that we love, different movies we love,” Robbie says. They would look at something like “Trainspotting”: “How did they achieve this feeling of beautiful chaos, but within it, everything feels satisfying?” she wonders. One of their sessions lasted 13 hours, Hodson recalls. “I was at the keyboard; she was doing story cards. She is remarkable in that sense. I certainly don’t know of any other actors like her who would do that.
Most beautiful women ever - Sharon Tate & Margot Robbie 🌹
Watch the comic movie, goy
Lol she was calling S_C_ a drug dealer, Kaepernick7 unpatriotic and deporting immigrants all while bumping 21savage on Twitter just to research a role
FAMEKILLED ADMIT IT IMMEDIATELY MARGOT
forsberg_philip 😘🤩🤩😍😍
Samieleee23
Unless she went back to college and shit herself, she didn’t commit enough to the Bit™️
She shat herself ? Damn now thats method
People acting like doing basic research for a role is the same as DDL going method 😂
it's me i'm margot
alexandralhill did you read this? Thoughts? I really want to see Birds of Prey now.
i'm margot robbie
First thing she had to do was poop her pants.
So she didn't try to understand where people come from, what they believe, why they believe it, or how those beliefs translate into actions? She just approached it all as a big performance, and nothing more? That's not method acting or research. That's confirmation bias.
I don't know what she got paid, but it wasn't enough.
Oh my god SHE was gun girl this whole time?
Such hard-hitting method acting. Surely she deserves an Oscar for 'studying' on the toilet. I'm doing it rn. Where's mine.
MargotRobbie in BOP - what a performance. Her physicality and facial expressions bring the comic character to life. Ignore the naysayers always hating on women-driven blockbusters.
Staring into the abyss.
She's a method actor now? 😳
She is so good in this movie
RealAssTalkNow BeckyBunzy SRuhle Saw where the R rated Bird of Prey only did 13 million on Friday. Let’s get real an R rated cuts out the teen age crowd.
Find the burner

steveking_ That sounds soul-crushing
I still haven't watched BirdsOfPrey yet. But I will definitely watch BombshellMovie when it would premier in Philippine cinemas on Feb 19! I will watch Bombshell first before SonicMovie. I'll catch MargotRobbie first before I'll CatchSonic
I'M PULLING FOR MARGOT ROBBIE ON Oscars NIGHT.. SHE'S WAS GREAT IN HER ROLE AS KAYLA. BROUGHT OUT ALL KINDS OFF FEELINGS IN BombshellMovie
So if Joaquin is getting an Oscar for joker shouldn’t Margot also get an Oscar for birds of prey ? She was fantastic and better 🤷♂️
ashleyfeinberg
I'm Margot Robbie.
Margot going method 🤨
So it's more like 'Suicide Squad'? Oh shit!
The Joker basically has nothing to do with the DC Comics character. Just some names and places but is just the story of a suffering man, a normal person like us that goes out of his mind. Birds of prey is totally into the Dc Comics universe. Not comparable at all ....
What does that even mean? She flying in it?
Get it, gurl. MargotRobbie 💪🏻
I love Margot Robbie and her version of Harley Quinn but BOP isn't going to come nowhere near Joker in terms of quality and that's fine BOP is a fun girls night out type of film.
I love her 😍
Incredibly smart? As long as the Fox beauty queens had an earpiece connected to the director with so-so looks telling them what to ask.
Ummm ErinGaetz you need to know this
