Cientos de personas marcharon en las calles del centro de Los Ángeles para impulsar a los demócratas en el Senado a aprobar un proyecto que daría la ciudadanía a más de ocho millones de indocumentados.
“Hoy es un día para decir que los inmigrantes son súper importantes para la economía de Estados Unidos”, advirtió Angélica Salas, directora de la Coalición por los Derechos Humanos de los Inmigrantes , que encabezó el llamado para que los legisladores “reconozcan la contribución” de los indocumentados al desarrollo del país.
La acción se da en medio de las discusiones en el Senado de Estados Unidos para proteger a los indocumentados. El proyecto de legalización que daría un camino a la ciudadanía a más de ocho millones de inmigrantes está incluido en el plan de gasto de 3,5 billones de dólares del Gobierno Biden. Ante la oposición republicana al plan de gasto, los demócratas han optado por buscar la aprobación por medio de la “reconciliación” presupuestaria, que sólo requiere la mayoría simple .
