Attendance at Oakland Athletics baseball games has dwindled to historic lows as the team continues to explore moving the team to Las Vegas if they can't reach a deal to build a new stadium near the Port of Oakland.Speaking with Chris “Mad Dog” Russo on SiriusXM, Manfred spoke plainly about a potential Oakland stadium’s prospects.
“I think the mayor in Oakland has made a huge effort to try to get it done in Oakland. It just doesn’t look like it’s going to happen,”For years, the As have wanted to build a park at Howard Terminal in Oakland and have proposed a $12 billion development plan that would include a new stadium. But as SFGATEearlier this year, a disagreement between the A’s and the city of Oakland over affordable housing units associated with the stadium plan could sink the Howard Terminal option.
As recently as 2019, Oakland was home to three major sports franchises. But the Golden State Warriors moved into the Chase Center in San Francisco in 2019 and the Raiders left for Las Vegas in 2020.as a viable alternative for the A’s if the team isn’t able to build a new stadium in Oakland. “I think the A’s have proceeded prudently in terms of exploring the Las Vegas alternative, given the lack of pace in Oakland.
