'You have a judge like T.S. Ellis, who looks at a defendant like Paul Manafort, sees someone rich, powerful, nearly 70 years old, and looks at a version himself,' a former Justice Department official told MSNBC.

The 47-month prison sentence given to former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort on Thursday reflected a broader inequity in how the criminal justice system treats"rich, powerful" defendants, a former Justice Department official staid.

"I think what happens is in a lot of these cases, you have a judge like T.S. Ellis who looks at a defendant like Paul Manafort, sees someone rich, powerful, nearly 70 years old and looks at a version himself...and they look at young, black defendants who are also convicted of nonviolent offenses and they see a threat, and you see that in sentencing."

Manafort's 47-month sentence for conviction on charges that he hid $55 million in accounts outside the country, defrauded banks and did not pay millions of dollars in taxes, prompted a quick backlash.

Manafort still faces sentencing on two conspiracy counts in Washington D.C. next week, and D.C. District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson might be less sympathetic than Ellis, according to reports.

PAID OFF JUDGE!!!!

There was no justice here, Ellis acted as PR for Manafort, not a judge, also sentenced Rep Bill Jefferson to 13 years for corruption WhiteMalePrivilege Patriarchy JudicialMisconduct

Exactly the way the rich, white Bundy family was treaded in Nevada. Just as sophicated as Paul within their own field of endeavors.

Judge Ellis should be disbarred and removed from the Bench for his outbursts about the Russia investigation, refusing to hear the case in his court room than panders to the White Privileged Felon.

Le,gal system is not through with Manafort...wait for it!

Or maybe Judge Ellis got a nice wire transfer to his Cyprus Account yesterday... 🤔

that's for damn sure!

Bump Stock Rule Puts Constitution In The CrosshairsAdministrative agencies show no qualms about turning law-abiding citizens into felons. Allowing DOJ to write criminal laws without Congress thus risks terrifying consequences. If DOJ can create the bump stock rule, what stops it from bypassing Congress to create criminal laws on other subjects? Since when is a bump stock an armament? Or does it? If we want to take the constitution so goddamn literally I️ vote we drive bears to extinction, sneak into gun owners homes and leave bear arms where their guns were. i can (and do) bumpfire without a bumpstock
