Man sentenced to 18 years for 2021 murder in southeast Austin

AUSTIN, Texas — A man convicted of a deadly shooting in southeast Austin more than three years ago has been sentenced to 18 years in prison.

On the morning of Feb. 3, 2021, Austin Police Department officers responded to a call of shots fired on Willow Creek Drive. When they arrived on the scene, officers found a car that had crash, occupied by a man who was seated in the driver's seat. APD said the man, later identified as 54-year-old Ramon Patino Munoz, appeared to have been shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after officers located him.Investigators later learned that three men had fled the scene in an SUV. Police believed the men were committing armed robberies in the area throughout the day on Feb. 3, culminating in Munoz's death.

On Feb. 9, 2022, more than one year after the shooting, the Texas Department of Public Safety's Lone Star Fugitive Task Force arrested then-19-year-old Jacovi Sattiewhite in San Marcos on a first-degree murder warrant in connection with Munoz's death. He was booked into the Travis County Jail. According to court documents obtained by KVUE, Sattiewhite pleaded guilty to murder and was convicted on March 28, 2024. The same day, he was sentenced to 18 years in prison and ordered to pay $445 in fees.KVUE would like to send you push notifications about the latest news and weather.
