Two people rescued were from the water off Atlantic City on Sunday evening, including one who was semi-conscious when he was brought to the hospital, a fire official said. Two men were swimming in the ocean off North Carolina Avenue near the Steel Pier when they began struggling at about 6:40 p.m.,When firefighters arrived, a family member had already rescued one of the men from the water, Evans said. A firefighter entered the ocean and used a rescue board to remove a second man clinging to a pylon in head-high water, the chief said.
Emergency workers began treatment on the beach before the man was brought to an area hospital. Evans and an Atlantic City police spokesman both said Monday they had no update on the man’s condition. The first man was alert and being attended to by a police officer when firefighters arrived. He was also checked on the beach by emergency workers, the chief said.
