A man died after a fire broke out in a Pleasant Grove home early Saturday morning, officials say.

Dallas Fire-Rescue was called about 2:15 a.m. to the 6800 block of Day Street, near Wilkes Avenue, where heavy smoke was seen coming from the front of a home, spokesman Jason Evans said. When firefighters arrived, a neighbor told them they believed someone could still be inside. Evans said fire had “already spread through a large part of the house,” but firefighters got the blaze under control.

A man was found unresponsive by firefighters in a back bedroom, and he was pronounced dead, Evans said. His name has not been released. Investigators believe the fire started in the kitchen, leaving behind “significant damage” throughout the home, according to Evans. However, the cause of the fire was listed as undetermined pending a ruling from the Dallas County medical examiner’s office on the man’s cause of death.. Jamie Landers is a breaking news reporter at The Dallas Morning News.

Column: Caruso is confident. But running the Grove isn't the same as running the cityIn the mayoral race, Rick Caruso’s message is everywhere: He can fix L.A. Except that running the city is not like running the Grove. If the city was even half as nice as the grove it would be a huge win. Nothing has worked so far. So, either the problems are unsolvable? Or, we need new people/approach. Once again, it feels like people want to complain, point fingers, and spend piles of $, as the problems get worse. Have the other candidates ever successfully managed anything? Let’s be real, politicians and developers benefited financially from homeless programs that aren’t accountable for reducing the numbers, Caruso knows if he reduces the homeless, there will be more money and LA will support him if he does it instead of “helping” them
