MakerGear is a Beachwood-based company Rick Pollack started in his garage in 2009.

, a Beachwood-based company that builds 3D printers for commercial and home use, is looking to be acquired, founder Rick Pollack said. He started the business in his garage in 2009. The company also does some machining in house.

The printers are built in the U.S., Pollack said, but certain parts a power supply or a motor difficult to find without going overseas, and those parts went up 25% overnight when the tariffs were imposed. “What the tariffs really did to us in 2018 is they really hurt our ability to innovate,” Pollack said.Pollack said the company fought through it in 2019 started to recovered, then the COVID-19 pandemic hit as MakerGear started to turn a corner.
