Britain's two main political parties, Conservatives and Labour, take a hammering in local elections as Brexit-weary voters express frustration over the country's stalled departure from the European Union.

Counting of ballots begins in the Northern Ireland local elections as at Coleraine Leisure centre in County Londonderry, Friday May 3, 2019. Elections were held Thursday for more than 8,000 seats on 259 local authorities across England — although not in London — and Northern Ireland.

The Conservatives had previously held about 60 percent of the more than 8,000 seats being contested. The rest of the results are due Friday across England and Northern Ireland. Elections are not being held in London, Scotland or Wales. He said voters’ mood was “almost anti-political ... I think they want to punish us for a lack of action in government.”

Poor wording

Just wondering if Russia helping with the political spin to divide as they have in the US....

Peak both sides. The Tories and UKIP got hammered for foisting Brexit on an unwilling country, and Labour got a slap on the wrist for not blocking it.

Is there anything in the results that could be seen as a pro Leave signal? I see consistently Remain Lib Dems gaining, UKIP and Tories losing, and mealy-mouthed Labour being punished.

Voters are pissed that the political parties in charge have tried to undermine their referendum mandate? No kidding? Will the next headline read, 'Water is wet.'?

The referendum was a joke on the citizens

eh ... now there would be a “Russian trace” for consolidation! ✊️😂

Just another ploy to try to get the uninformed to want to stay in the EU

Wrong again. It's been a 'hammering' by remain voters who have left the 2 main parties in favour of the pro-European LibDems. Departing, quickly or slowly is not what this vote represents.

It’s not so much frustration about the stalled departure but, if you look at who were the major winners, more a rejection of Brexit as a whole.

Misleading. The two major parties lost out to two Remain parties. It's not about frustration that Brexit has 'stalled', it's frustration that neither main party is representing the will of the people, which is now to REMAIN.

Nope - look closer at the results. People mainly voted for anti Brexit parties. It's not frustration with the speed or manner of Brexit. It's that we want it called off altogether.

The referendum was joke on the citizens

Err, I'm sure there's also an element of frustration at the prospect of departure at all. I'm not sure how you can call it one way exclusively.

UK government must move on Brexit red lines in talks with opposition - LabourTalks between the British government and the opposition Labour Party aimed at fi... Why? It was Peoples decision, nothing to do with MPs. Most of MPs will be out of office at next election. They have proved themselves disrespecting of Democracy therefore they do not hold values of British People, of all races, therefore are no longer fit for purpose. UK government must obey the will of it’s people or it’s no longer a democracy but a dictatorship instead To move on any of the red lines would be pure treason! Those red lines are there to protect our sovereignty & our right to exist as an independent democratic nation!
