Mark Aguirre has held the Mavericks single season scoring record for 40 years. Now, Luka Doncic will likely unseat the Mavs scoring title.Neither of these European sensations hold the franchise's single season scoring record, though. That honor belongs to Mark Aguirre, the Mavs' No. 1 overall pick in the 1981 NBA Draft and third all-time leading scorer in franchise history. In the 1983-83 season, Aguirre scored 2,330 points in 79 games played.

That single season scoring record has stood for 40 years, even with Nowitzki nailing fadeaway jumpers and 3-pointers at the top of the key for 21 years. The closest Nowitzki ever came to Aguirre's record was in 2005-06, when the 7-foot German scored 2,151 points. Doncic, though, has this record within reach with eight games remaining this season. The NBA's leading scorer has scored 2,210 entering Tuesday night's matchup with the Golden State Warriors. Doncic only needs 120 points to pass Aguirre, and if his averages hold true, would do so in 3.5 games – meaning it could happen at home against Houston.
