LONDON - U.S. buyout fund Blackstone Group Inc is expected to announce the merger of its majority-owned financial data firm Refinitiv with the London Stock Exchange Group Plc within a week, but the deal is expected to face a long antitrust review before it can close, four sources told Reuters.

Thomson Reuters spokesman David Crundwell declined to comment. Representatives at Refinitiv, Blackstone and the LSE also declined to comment. Investor groups in Europe have been lobbying for stock exchanges to cut the price of stock transactions data so that a “consolidated” feed of prices from different platforms can be created at a reasonable cost.Blackstone and other Refinitiv investors will also face several share lock-up periods, with the first expected to last through 2022, depending on the length of the antitrust review.

If successful, Blackstone will have roughly doubled the value of its original investment in Refinitiv in nine months.

Blackstone’s quick data flip is a paper two baggerLess than 12 months after buying Thomson Reuters’ financial data unit, the buyout firm is in talks to sell Refinitiv to London Stock Exchange in a $27 bln deal. There are risks, notably what Brexit could do to LSE shares, but an implied money doubling provides plenty of cushion. tombuerkle Refinitiv had $12.2 billion in debt as of the end of December as a result of its leveraged buyout by Blackstone, which LSE would assume under the proposed deal. ReutersChina tombuerkle are they selling everything or just the cover? jk. i'd pay 83 for the whole thing.

'It will be fascinating': Silicon Valley faces an antitrust reckoningIt's been decades, at least, since such a wide array of major players across an industry have faced this kind of scrutiny at once. The Valley has no friends . Traditional conservatives and republicans who usually protect biz interests don’t trust them, the base sees them as bias. Their money bought them progressive dispensation until Trump used some of their tech to get elected. No friends There needs to be more accountability on these tech companies as they rather than foreign countries have the ability to affect elections. I have my suspicions about recent close calls in recent referenda here in Europe.
