“That’s a go-to here,” Alex said in Tuesday’s press conference. “If you are from Jersey or in Jersey, it’s a weird thing we only do here apparently, but it is awesome. The bagels here are better than anywhere in the world.”
As soon as Alex landed on Sunday, she began her nostalgic, comfort food tour by heading to Luigi’s in East Hanover, an Italian restaurant owned by a friend’s father, to catch up and celebrate her latest accomplishment:on May 1. She knew the week would be hectic, and wanted to make time to see some of her closest friends before the tournament.
“I think the timing has kind of been insane mainly because I’ve gone from the win, which it was incredible. It’s been a long time. Now I’m heading into this week, which is a really big home game. Minus Mountain Ridge, this is the closest I have ever played an LPGA event to my hometown,” Alex said Tuesday. “I think regardless it’s going to be a little crazy, and now it’s really amplified, but it’s cool.
Alex tees off in the first round of the Founders Cup at 8:10 a.m. Thursday, grouped with with Yuka Saso of Tokyo, Japan and Allisen Corpuz of Kapolei, Hawaii, on the first tee. She’d already picked up a dozen tickets for friends and family by Tuesday, and since the tickets are dailies and not weeklies, she said she’ll be providing plenty more before the week is done.
